Why isn\’t my internet/phone working? Please Read?

We’ve recently moved and decided to switch from Telus to try out the Shaw TV/Internet/Phone bundle. We used the new Shaw modem and our pre-existing router. It worked fine for the first day. But now we keep losing the connection at random times (at least 3 times a day for about an hour each) and can’t get back on. I’m on my laptop so we’re connecting with Wi-Fi, I think. I can’t get back on because it says I have no internet access. When our internet goes down, our phone line also goes down and vise-versa. Sometimes when someone calls or we call, the internet dies although it might be a coincidence. Today, we got a Shaw technician to looks at it and he managed to get the phone working by adjusting a few things in the phone box, and fixed our internet by restarting the router which I then told him “I’ve done many times before but it still didn’t work”. He then pointed out that it was probably the routers fault since all the lights were blinking on the shaw modem and that the router was somehow interfering with everything. He told me if you lose your connection again (which was about half hour ago) unplug your router from everything and connect the PC directly into the modem, which I did and still doesn’t work.

Something really important to keep in mind is that I tried out my neighbors internet (with their permission) for a day through wifi and still had the same problem including that I couldn’t connect back and the random loss of connection. I found this very strange? Also, We are on the Shaw bundle and the TV hasn’t been an issue at all.

Right now, I have access to the internet which is why I’m writing this message fast before it dies on me again.
