do i need to get a micro sd memory card to use the dstt (ttds) ?????????

Help With ttds Chip For DS?

I bought a fake chip, and my dad says my saves are still there, just the fake chip can’t read it.
Is that true? And, if I buy a REAL chip, can it read my unreadable save?
